Nigeria-I  Weep For You

Weep not for Jonathan,
but weep for Nigeria,
rejoice not much over
2015 presidential elections,
never be carried away by
events of moment;
delude yourself not
by epithet “change,”
rather envision-
what Nigeria of tomorrow
SHALL BE.

Weep not over Jonathan’s
failure to secure-
another four-year-tenancy-
at-Aso-Rock,
weep for the goose-Nigeria-
that lays the golden egg;
mourn the river that gives
everyone water to drink,
wail over the cow,
whose milk everyone feeds on.

Ululate over the woman-
whose breasts every Nigerian
suck-
that may soon be abused;
screech for the re-emergence
of cobweb that slows
Nigeria’s fifty-something
years of greatness and
development down.

Squawk for return of nepotism,
whimper-yes-whine over
tribal cleavages,
howl over religious bigotry,
yowl over political arm twisting;
yelp for return of born to rule,
shriek for the land that has
refused to grow.
Squeal for the stunted land,
land-the central government
shall become Santa Claus,
with iron rod to inflict injury
upon enemies.

Bawl-yes-yammer
Image result for crises and evils in nigeriaas federating units
shall remain pupils-almajeris-
resulting in socio-economic
and political kwashiorkor;
snivel as federal powers
will be abused.

Bleat over federal powers,
consider how current holders
will use the power to
perpetrate and promote
decades of frauds-
as 2017 Census be conducted;
Nigerians just contemplate
how tilted and biased
“Federal Character” policy will be
under the future dispensation-
in favor of Regional Character.

Bellow as a section in the land
may be insensitive to the
feelings of others,
vociferate as collective wealth
will be up for grab by a new
political and economic mafia;
weep and weep again
as North-South Dichotomy
will re-emerge.

Be alarmed as concentrated
defense and security apparatus
in federal hands be used to
pursue sectional and promote
religious agenda.

Weep over hunger, misery,
anger that will pervade in the
land;
cry over failures,
incompetence, injustices,
arrogance, and wickedness
that will rule over the land.

Weep over suppression of
civil institutions in the land,
mourn over attacks on
legislature to create a
free pass to
dictatorship and fascism.

Cry over anti-social-cum-
religiously-toned-policies
that will take the land
backward;
weep over reign of
impunity, return of
ethno-religious crises.

Weep as a select,
but powerful individuals,
power-behind-the-throne
through back doors take
over the reign of the land.

Cry! Cry!! Cry!!!
Weep! Wail!! Howl!!!
For the Land-
One Hundred and Seventy
Million People called Home,
most populous Black nation in the
universe;
land of two great Rivers-
Niger and Benue,
a land of 450 nationalities-
NIGERIA.
