Greece: Where Pantheon Failed, Quintet Lagacies Remain Eternally:

Greece: When Pantheon Failed, Quintet Legacies Remain Eternally:

Greek’s Deities and Mankind:

Mankind had searched,

but in vain to conquer death,

in vain they had traveled to

imaginary “island of life”

to buy non-existent immortality;

in futility they used elixir

to re-new or to extend life.

In trifle they searched

for death  jailers,

but they found none;

in inanity they became

friends of Thanatos-

Greek god of death,

yet, death never spares man.

In otiose they befriended

Mors-Roman deity of death,

daily, mankind is committed to

tombs and vaults;

in fatuitous they deified –

Geras-

still, mankind undergo

old age.

In fatuity mankind worshipped-

Oizys-

nontheless, mankind still

undergo unending suffering and

pain;

with passion mankind deified-

Moros-to keep doom away-

yet, doom envelop man to this

day.

Mankind had done everything

possible to pacify-Apate-

personification of deceit;

nevertheless, falsehood continue

trailing mankind activities.

Momus, un-ceasingly did

man worship him.

notwithstanding, blames and

counter-blames never left man.

Evis-they venerated,

regardless, strife has his palace

among sons of mankind;

Hypnos-they loved without equal-

still, mankind is deprived of

everyday sleep.

Somnus, they respected-

instead of afternoon-sleep

sleepwalking-the-gift-he gave,

instead of night sleep-

narcolepsy-he offered.

Instead of correction,

morbid fear Nemesis instilled

into man’s heart,

forgiveness-a forbidden term

in his courtyard;

Atropos and Keres-

man had venerated-

yet, they either killed

violently or peacefully.

Greek’s five gifts to modern world-

the Eternal legacies:

When your deities failed man-

you gave mankind

the fivesome, the quintet gifts of:

democracy-

representational government

by elections,

science and medicine-to give man-

quality life,

philosophy and knowledge-to task man’s

thinking abilities,

art and theater to make

heart of a man rejoice, and

public service to improve

man’s living standard.

Even when your mythologies

confused and made zombies

out of men of old,

reasoning and emperism through-

“priori reasoning, intuition, or revelation”

from your intellect shaped

man’s thinking.

When “Pandora Box” resulted in

multiple evils,

comedies and tragedies at

open-air-theaters-

put smiles on peoples’ faces.

Should we forget ancient medicines

that cured diseases and healed

mankind from illnesses?

Should we forget copious medical

knowledge from  great Greek physicians?

We remember the Hippocratic oaths,

the foundation of modern medicines.

Should we for forget the

great mathematicians and their

works?

Vertical theorem and right triangle-

of Euclid and Pythagoras-

I say: No!

We remember the seven sages,

numerous thinkers and

philosophers-

whose works created today’s

intellectual treatise.

Never shall we forget

Greco/Roman alphabet-

the revolutionary tool,

that created modern literacy.

We remember every

four-year Olympic games

at Olympia, Peloponnese,

every participating states-

postponed hostilities and wars

until games ended;

the grand master of

modern Olympics.

Should we forget your architecture,

which featured varied Oikos-

households, temples, theaters,

acropolis, agoras, stoas?

Greek’s Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian

architectural systems remain

unbeatable,

even by modern architecture.

Your knowledge of space

very outstanding.

Your “teleskopos”

“far-seeing watchers” prepared

way for today’s moon-landing

and subsequent space explorations.

Granted, your pantheon

failed men-of-old;

but your thinkers did not,

your scientists did not,

your dramatists did not,

your physicians did not.

In face of its short comings-

your Democracy outlived several

Cracies-

ever known in history.

Greece! Greece!! Greece!!!

Forever, mankind shall remember you,

forever, eulogize you-

for the gifts bequeathed to

the world of mankind.
