A Nation Under Siege: As we Say Goodbye to Charleston Nine.

A Nation under Siege: As we say Goodbye to Charleston Nine.

Murderous act in the sanctuary,

blood at the foot of altar-

anger in the land-

distress in the land of

freedom;

endless cry and wailing

in the land whose four-

corner-pillar-are

fairness, equality, justice,

and peace.

Peace to all,

the land proclaim always,

prosperity to free born-

the land advertise always-

happiness to everyone-the banner-

the land holds and displays

by means of bountiful

opportunities,

it creates for those living in her.

Peace, where are you?

House of God is violated,

House of Prayer now turned-

a-shooting-range,

archer had reduced population

by nine un-wanted souls.

Melancholy obfuscated mind,

age-long stereotyping song-

sets stage for slaughter-

in place of objectivity,

we witnessed subjectivity.

Every time, life appears

un-safe in the land of freedom,

young, old, male, and female,

their precious blood they shed-

for no reasonable cause-

by individuals without-

the heart-of-man.

At schools, the halls of knowledge,

flowerbeds that nurture today’s

buds and saplings-

tomorrow’s cedars  and ebonies-

have become slaughterhouses;

daily, military formations-

towers of strength and shield-

have turned lands laid with mines-

with everyday explosion.

Houses of God-

the inviolable lands-

are now execution grounds;

places of  employment-

homes away from homes-

have become targets to

express anger by hit-and-run-

workers of lawlessness.

Shopping Malls and

recreation centers have

become Aceldama and

stockyard,

which shoppers and fun-lovers

visit with suspicion and

watchfulness.

Every time tragedy of

this magnitude happens,

gun, control, and hate-

the triplet-

becomes national conversation-

conversation soon to be

hijacked by politicians and

merchants of death.

Because of power, influence, and

access to media by means of:

gate keeping and agenda setting;

tempo and issue of conversation-

is either destroyed or killed-

turning the clock of public discourse

backward,

until another tragedy happens.

America, how long thou shall be

be on a road, the destination-

no one knows?

By means of negligence and

failure to act collectively-

many have become orphans,

widows, and widowers;

many had died figuratively-

awaiting real death.

America, you may not

secure present as desired,

you may not have absolute

control over everything,

but you can reduce

death through gun control.

You can get guns

out of undesirable hands,

you can limit gun movement

in the land;

collectively, you can tone down

macabre in the land.

America, you need not grieve

when not necessary,

you need not expend time on

murder-or-man-slayer-trial-

when not necessary-

you need not commit

human resources and

tax-payers’ money on trial

that will only lead to incarceration,

while the cause of pain

remains in society.

America, get the guns

from undesirable hands,

get guns out of streets,

get guns out of counties,

get guns out of cities,

get guns out of states.

Let America continue to

be a safe haven

for all-free born and everyone

in her-

let our children come back

home,

every time they go to schools;

let the heroes return

home from military

formations after duty tours,

let houses of prayers

remain houses of prayers,

no more execution grounds;

let our loved ones return

home after the day’s job.

More so, let Americans and

her co-dream sharers

live not under the siege of

AK 47 anymore.
