In Me.

Laughter in me,

let it affect others

joy in me,

let it be transferable,

happiness in me,

let many share from it.

Cheers in me

may it light up faces,

sorrow in me,

let friends wipe for me,

anger in me

let colleagues placate.

Jealousy in me,

lead me not to evil,

envy in me,

do not make me

covetous.

Fighting spirit in me,

I will never give up,

skill in me-

I will strop every day,

creativity in me,

I will turn to wonder,

wisdom in me,

I will share with others,

understanding in me,

I will use build society.

Knowledge in me,

I will offer as service,

my heart,

I will give to those

without heart,

time-I will devote

to a good cause.

 

My speech shall be

for upbuilding,

my essence of living

to serve humanity.

BLACKNESS

Blackness!

Yes! I'm black in color,
not in mind as
supposed,
hair may be black,
not in reason.

Define me not by
eye color,
identify me not by
skin color,
stereotype me not by
old fantasies,
but judge me by conduct.

See my blackness as BEAUTY,
see my skin color as my GLORY,
give no blanket criticism,
place no individual fault
upon others.

I'm black-Yes-I know,
just a color,
the real ME is
the content of my
Character.

I'm black,
I'm beautiful,
I'm great,
I'm just a human
like every living SOUL.

Yes-I am Black,

of course, I know;

but I’m proud of

IT.

GLOBETROTTING!

I ran to Iran,

rushed to Russia,

became hungry in

Hungary,

pounded last yam in 

Poland.

Turned to Tunisia,

told a friend to go

to Togo,

jogged everyday in

Djibouti,

checked in to Czech,

waited in Kuwait,

saw cans in Canada,

found no way in

Norway,

but got stuck in

Stockholm.

 

I saw fins in Finland,

wore suede in Sweden,

met a Maroko man in

Morocco, and

Iperu man in Peru.

Iju-Lagos man traveled to

Jewish land,

Parakoyi chief form

Abeokuta migrated to

Paraguay,

people from Ire in Osun

relocated to Ireland,

Korira-Yoruba word-

changed to Korea,

all Yemisi  from Lagos

migrated to Yemen.

Kosowo-Yoruba word-

changed to Kosovo,

palongo dance become

very popular in Congo.

AND TOMORROW WILL COME

And Tomorrow

Will Come:

You may cry all-night

long,

sob all-day long,

snivel behind the curtain;

heart become burden,

mind gets agitated,

tomorrow shall bring

refreshing breeze.

Today may be only

dirge,

harp resonates just elegy,

horn voice out threnody,

crashing cymbals go into

coma,

trumpet refuses clarion

call,

today’s darkness shall go,

tomorrow’s sunshine

shall lead into a new

pathway.

Rough road may be ahead,

rugged and frightening

interceptions,

freeway may not be

free any way,

highway may be

curvy and slippery,

frontage becomes

uneven and jagged-

township road turns,

shaggy and dangerous.

Walkway and alley

may be difficult to

navigate,

weather may become

inclement,

tempestuous sea may

discourage you,

co-travelers may become

boisterous and cruel,

tomorrow’s blessing

will compensate for

darkness of moment.

Are you tired?

Are you bothered?

Are you depressed?

Are you discourage and

weak?

Are you anxious or troubled?

The gloom shall dissipate,

cloud shall disappear,

precipitation shall end,

rainfall shall go back into

sea,

violent wind shall abate,

cyclone shall anchor.

Bright light shall herald

tomorrow,

zephyr will be welcoming,

oasis of peace shall open

the door, and

symphony of joy shall rend

the air.

 

For certainty,

tomorrow will

come,

and will be more

glorious than today,

AFRICA-ARISE

Africa-Years of Pain-

Africa-I won’t lose-

faith on you,

because your future

is great,

Africa-I won’t write you

off,

because your tomorrow

is certain.

Africa-I won’t forget-

your dreams,

because some day-

it will come to past;

Africa-I won’t forget-

Yesterday’s cries,

water that nurtures

today’s greenery.

Africa-I won’t forget-

your children’s journey

across Atlantic,

to build nations,

Africa-I remember-

those sun beats in

plantations from

Brazil to North America.

Africa-I remember-

those abuses,

which no human

law can rectify,

I remember family

disruption and tear-apart,

I remember all open and

indoor wailings.

I remember those

cheap and unpaid

labors

from sunset to

sunrise.

Oh! I can recall

those fears-you

live with-

for centuries;

I remember the

trauma-

emotional pains-

no therapy can fix.

I remember days

Days of famine and

thirst;

I remember-mothers’

cries- seeing her son

lynched for trivialities.

Never will I forget

unnecessary dirges

sung in churches as

memorials.

Africa-shall I forget-

sub human life-

you lived?

A record mind will

ALWAYS REMEMBER.

THE AFRICAN BEAUTY

The African Beauty

The beauty you see
in her has no equal,
the culture she
represents is from ages,
Africa in her remains
eternal Africa,
civilization she projects
from time immemorial.

                                                                           

Yesterday she represents,
today she holds, and
tomorrow preserve;
she symbolizes identity
without equal
not facial,
not of color;
but encapsulates
forgotten past.

Upon her head is a gourd
that represents world,
colors on it exemplifies
variety,
her heart she turns
cuneiform, and
mind to hieroglyphics.

                                                                     

You're great,
you're wonderful,
light in you-never go
dim,
sun in you guide
the day,
moon in you be for
the night.

                                                                             

Your star-let it twinkle-
your ocean-let it roar,
the rocks let them rock,
rivers in you
let them become agitated,
let your sky thunder,
lightning from you,
let it strike the world,

Let high and low lands
in you quake,
may those years of sorrow
become days of benediction.

                                                     

WAR AND MAN

War and Man:

War man plans everyday,
war he wages,
war he derives pleasure,
war man turns to business,
weapons of war,
he creates by day,
causes of war,

                                                                   

he promotes,
blood of innocent,
he sheds without reason,
homes war destroys,
families war kills,
widows it makes women,
orphans children will
soon become.

War man makes attractive,
war man turns to entertainment,
simulated weapons of war,
man makes as toys to charm
young folks.
Destruction from sea-
war brings,
killing from air,
war promotes,
slaughter from land,
war creates.

Millions have been killed
in wars,
Trillions have been lost to
wars
yet-god of war mankind
worship,
goddess of war,
mankind adore,
princes of war-
their friend.

Will man ever learn from
yesterday?
Will man ever think,
war is avoidable, and
peace is possible?
