Jack:
Our
Horse
Retires.
Jack-a family friend of
twenty years-
a reputable family
member of no mean
feat,
a message bearer,
a message deliverer.
Call Jack at any time-
he responds with
a lightning rod,
hoofs he sets out,
tail-he wags-
showing readiness,
forelimbs-he raises-
indicating friendship,
just as he neighs
to confirm loyalty.
Our invaluable sedan,
to everyone he is a carrier,
community clinic he takes
Joan and Jeanne,
school he takes,
Johnbull and Jonny,
grocery store he ferries
Jo-Anne,
farm he takes Johnson.
Jack becomes everything to
everyone,
in thick Jack disappoints
no one,
in thin he’s with the family.
Now hoofs are tired,
mouth can’t bear the bridle,
head is tired of stripes,
back bone is sored,
both sides of stomach
are now old and weary;
neighing is weak,
canter and galloping are
over,
trot or two-beat diagonal gait
is gone
tail wagging also gone.
As you retire today,
let everyone wish
Jack a blissful retirement.
Thank
You Jack.
